Your everyday toothpaste is great for keeping your pearly whites, well—white. Did you know there are so many other uses for toothpaste?
Before you throw away that almost-empty tube try some of these great ideas. You may find yourself cutting open the tube to scrape out that last bit for cleaning or shining things.
1.) Pimple Zapper
Pre-teens and teenagers should know that buying those expensive gels and creams for acne can be eliminated with a little toothpaste. Simply dab a small amount on a pimple before going to bed. In the morning the pimple will be dried up and less noticeable.
2.) Odor Cleanser
Have you been chopping onions or garlic? Maybe you were preparing fish for supper? No matter how good the meal is, nobody wants to be around you because, well…you smell.
Get rid of that icky odor in a flash by washing your hands (especially the nails) with some good toothpaste. It works the same as it does for bad breath, getting rid of the bacteria causing the odoriferous offense.
3.) Banish Bruises
A quick salve made of toothpaste and lotion can be applied to a bruise. Loosely cover the bruise. Then re-apply the salve for about 2-3 days and the bruise will disappear.
4.) Ironing Mishaps
Did you melt your delicate shirt with an iron that was too hot? Well, unfortunately toothpaste can’t fix your shirt, but it can get rid of the material melted on the iron.
Squeeze on a generous amount and use some elbow-grease to get rid of the stuck-on debris. You will need to wipe off the toothpaste thoroughly to prevent future iron mishaps.
5.) Polish Your Nails
Do your nails look dirty and dull? Maybe gardening has stained your nails. It’s easy to have them looking shiny and healthy again. Use white toothpaste to scrub the top and bottom of your nails daily.
You will notice how bright and shiny they become over time.
6.) Shine Your Shoes
You walk, play ball or do some shopping. Your white shoe soles can get scuffed and dirty. Rub a little toothpaste onto the white part of the soles and watch the dirt and grime disappear.
Your soles will be white again without a shoe polish. Leather shoes can look new when you use the toothpaste to buff out scuffs and scratches.
7.) Baby Your Grand
Clean the keys on your piano. Oils will build up from the many fingers touching the keys over-and-over. The toothpaste will lift the oils and brighten the keys, making your baby grand look ‘grand’ again.
8.) Gadgets & Gizmos
Did the teenage daughter use your phone? Maybe she wasn’t as careful as you would’ve liked. The face is scratched and she is in denial.
Before you ground her for life (or at least for the life of your phone) try using toothpaste on the screen. A small amount rubbed in with a soft rag will fill in scratches and leave the screen looking new.
This works on tablets and laptops, too.
9.) Sparkling Jewelry
The easy abrasion will leave your rings shining and new. Diamonds will sparkle brighter. The built-up gunk between stones in your jewelry will be gone, leaving a beautiful pendant or brooch in its place.
10.) Restoring the Shine
Are you getting ready for the holidays? You know – cleaning, polishing, dusting – it can all be taxing and expensive. Silver cleaner, brass polisher, a bottle of this and a spray can of that – but why would you spend all those extra dollars when you have toothpaste?
Toothpaste is fantastic for restoring shine and luster to brass and silver. Shine your faucets and get rid of gunk on linoleum floors with a little dab of toothpaste and a soft rag.
11.) Remove Stubborn Stains
Did Grandmother Lucy leave her signature Ruby Red lipstick stain on your collar when she came to visit? Don’t put granny in exile. Simply take an old toothbrush, some toothpaste and the stain and mix them together.
Let the paste sit on the stain overnight. The toothpaste will get rid of lipstick on the collar, tomato sauce, and other stains on your clothes. This remedy is best for non-colored clothes.
Be sure to use a non-whitening toothpaste to avoid bleaching the stain and creating a bigger problem.
These are only a few of the hundreds of things you can do with toothpaste. Just remember to use the white toothpaste instead of the gels. It’s also better if you avoid using the bleaching toothpastes.
A plain old cheap tube of Colgate or Crest can save you hundreds of dollars over expensive stain removers, jewelry cleaner and shoe polish. It can also save you time and gas from running to the store for cans of this and bottles of that.
