But don’t despair! Mindful exercises can be an excellent way to get rid of side fat.
First, let’s start by saying that a healthy diet is the first step to getting toned. All the crunches in the world won’t mean a thing if you aren’t living a healthy lifestyle.
In other words, fat has to be lost in order for those muscles to show. But, there are a few exercises that can help you get rid of side fat.
1.) Side Plank
Planks are a very effective exercise that requires no equipment. But, you’ll be using every muscle in your core when you do it.
Lie on one side of your forearm, trying to make your body parallel to the ground. Stack your feet on top of each other, engage your core, and lift your hips up.
After about 25 seconds, drop your plank. Repeat this a few times to burn those obliques!
2.) Russian Twist
You will quickly feel the burn with this exercise. To start, sit on a flat surface with your knees bent and feet flat on the ground. You should be leaning back at a 45 angle.
Twist your torso to each side and repeat back and forth. For an extra burn, try not to let your feet touch the ground. Try doing 20 reps on each side before resting.
3.) Oblique Crunch
Lie down on your back in one straight long line. Alternately reach your arms to each side as if you’re trying to touch your toes with your fingertips. Try not to rest your legs to really engage your core.
Contract your abs throughout the entire exercise to get the most out of this crunch. Repeat for 12 reps on each side.
For this exercise, you’ll need some sort of weight. If you don’t have dumbbells or kettlebells, make some DIY weights.
Stand straight up with your feet hip-width apart. Hold your weight up high in both hands on one side of your shoulder. Twist to make a chopping motion down towards your right hip.
Raise the weight back up to your shoulder. Switch sides and repeat for 20 reps on each side.
5.) Bicycle Crunches
This variation to crunches is another way to work on that side fat. Lie on your back with your knees bent and your hands behind your head.
Tighten your abs and move your right elbow toward your left knee. Switch positions and move your left elbow to your right knee. Your movement should resemble you riding a bicycle.
Move as quickly as possible and do this for a total of 30 seconds before resting.
6.) Dumbell Side Bend
To do this exercise, stand up straight while holding some sort of weight in each hand. While keeping your back straight and your head up, bend to the side.
Switch sides and bend while holding the weight in the opposite hand. Hold for a second on each side to really feel the burn. Repeat for 30 seconds before resting.
You can also do this exercise while sitting on a bench or with a barbell.
