Watch out, world: I’m a TV star now.
KENS 5, the CBS affiliate in San Antonio, ran a report on eDrugSearch.com on its evening newcast Tuesday night. Here’s a text excerpt from Wendy Rigby’s story:
Millions of Americans who are uninsured or underinsured have trouble affording the prescription medications they need. Now, a South Texas man has come up with a way for them to find better deals safely…
For those who can’t afford to pay the high prices, enter Bulverde resident Cary Byrd, whose brainstorming led him to create a Web site called eDrugSearch.com. “I just wanted to create something where people can go and search for the medications online for, you know, cheaper prices,” he said.
Here’s how it works: If you type in the name of a drug, the engine searches for qualified, licensed Internet pharmacies that carry it. You can check by specific dosages and quantities and compare the prices. Each of the pharmacies, most of which are in Canada, have been approved by third party accreditation groups.
Comparison shopping can save people quite a bit of money.
Byrd launched eDrugSearch.com in February, and his business plan predicts 100,000 hits a month by the end of the first year.
“We’re a niche search engine, and this really hasn’t ever been done before,” Byrd said. “I’m doing this in a kind of a non-biased way, just kind of putting the facts out there, so that they can make up their own decision.”
I guess I need to work on my “kind of’s” and “you know’s.” Oh well — at least I didn’t have a nip slip.
Wow — four months in business and we’ve already hit the local news trifecta, with coverage on KENS as well as in the San Antonio Express-News and the San Antonio Business Journal. Thanks to all of you who have supported us by ordering medications through our site, by reading our blog, and by spreading the word to others.1132
