Ouch! You broke another nail!

Why does that seem to be happening to you so often these days? There are a few reasons why your nails break so easily.

Sometimes it is related to aging. Other times it is because the nails are getting too dried out. The good thing is that it isn’t too difficult to reverse this problem, whatever the cause.

Here are 6 easy brittle nail remedies you can do at home. Give them a try, all you have to lose are brittle nails!

1.) Gloves

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” said Benjamin Franklin. It was as true then as it is today and you can apply the concept to your nails.

A common reason for brittle nails is constant exposure to water. As it evaporates, it takes moisture from your nails, causing them to become thin and brittle.

Thus, put some gloves on before washing the dishes or doing other chores that involve water. This is better for your hands too, not just your nails.

2.) Nail Polish

Amazingly enough, nail polish can actually be good for your nails! Those that enjoy painting their nails bright colors will be happy to hear this.

As we already mentioned, moisture loss is a big problem with brittle nails. Nail polish traps moisture in the nail and keeps them hydrated.

Be careful though. Nail polish remover is harsh and you shouldn’t use it more than once a week. Picking the polish off can also cause damage and you should avoid it.

3.) Coconut Oil

Nails grow from your cuticle. It makes sense, then, that taking care of your cuticle will produce strong nails.

Coconut oil is full of nutrients that nourish both your skin and nails. Warm a little and massage it into your nails and cuticles a couple times a day.

It smells divine and is one of the best and easiest brittle nail remedies out there!

4.) Vitamin E Oil

For some extra punch, you can do the same thing with a little vitamin E oil. This oil has potent curative and nourishing properties for both your skin and nails.

This oil is thick and it takes a while for your skin and nails to fully absorb it. For this reason, it’s a good idea to apply it at night.

5.) Apple Cider Vinegar

This brittle nail remedy is not as pleasant smelling as coconut oil. But, it can still be a good part of your nail care routine.

Mix apple cider vinegar with equal parts water in a small bowl. Rest your nails in the solution for a few moments.

Once the cuticles are soft, use an orangewood cuticle stick to push the cuticle back for a clean look.
