A Boiled Banana Before Bed Will Help You Sleep Better

Are you have trouble sleeping through the night?

The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute advises that adults should get seven to eight hours of sleep nightly.

Also, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 50 to 70 million adults suffer from sleep disorders, and that the dilemma is becoming a health problem.

Furthermore, the National Sleep Foundation found that the effects of sleep deprivation affect up to 50 percent of people living in the United States.

As you can see, a lack of sufficient sleep harbors more serious problems than simply leaving you tired and irritable the next day.

WebMD warns that chronic sleep deprivation increases the risk of developing various medical problems.

Cardiovascular disease, diabetes and weight gain may all occur when people fail to get enough sleep.

However, the common banana may help many resolve the problem.

A Boiled Banana Before Bed

A boiled banana before bed is just what Dr. Oz orders. The famous cardiovascular surgeon suggests cutting the ends from one organic banana.

Put the banana in a small pot and cover the fruit with water. Bring the water to a boil and allow it to continue boiling for approximately 10 minutes.

Strain the nutrient rich water into a mug and consume the beverage just before bedtime. The cooked fruit need not go to waste.

The Hearty Soul suggests removing the pulp from the skin and sprinkling the banana with a dash of ceylon cinnamon for a sweet treat.

However, cinnamon may act as a stimulant in some people. In that case, Livestrong recommends using nutmeg instead.

Why a Boiled Boiled Banana?

Livestrong explains that one banana contains approximately 487 milligrams of potassium, which acts as a natural muscle relaxant.

The fruit also contains 37 milligrams of magnesium, which is also known to have similar effects.

Additionally, bananas contain the amino acid, sleep-inducing neurotransmitter tryptophan along with the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin.

The chemical compounds are not only found in the fruit but also within the skin. Boiling a banana with the skin on extracts the nutrients from both the fruit and the skin.
