Baking Soda for Hair

Baking soda shampoo may not be something you read about too often, but this formulation brings many surprising benefits to the table.

If you have sensitive hair that doesn’t get along too well with most commonly used hair related chemicals—or if you’re a lover of all-natural and herbal beauty products-this creation is definitely for you.

It may be instructive to consider a few other perks before you proceed to the recipe. Baking soda will give you a solid alternative to mass-produced shampoos that are composed of dubious ingredients.

Since baking soda is by definition natural, you can expect it to leave your hair cleaner, silkier, and more manageable than before.

Plus, baking soda shampoo won’t do a number on the natural oils of your scalp. To make the pot even sweeter, home-made baking soda shampoo is far less expensive than just about any shampoo you could mention.

  • Baking Soda
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Plastic Squeeze Bottle

How to Make It

The first step-and basically the only one—will be for you to combine 3 parts water and 1 part baking soda in the squeeze container.

If your hair is shoulder length or longer, you’ll want to triple the amount of water and be sure to add two to three tablespoons of baking soda to it.

Washing Hair with Baking Soda

  • Place the mixed ingredients on your either dry or wet hair. Be sure to start down by the roots, and then work upwards towards the ends.
  • Once this part is done, allow the mixture to do its magic on your hair for about 2-3 minutes, after which you’ll want to rinse it out with cold water. Even though it may not foam much, you can rest assured that it will get the job done.
  • Next, rinse out any remaining residue with the help of a little warmer water.
  • Once this is done, it’ll be time to do the vinegar rinse. Combine 4 parts water with 1 part apple cider vinegar, adding a little lavender oil if the aroma of the vinegar bothers you. Make sure your head is well tilted, and rinse out the excess with some mild water.

And that’s it. Once you begin your treatments, keep trying it out for a good month in order to see a big improvement with your hair. Enjoy!
