More Psychics than Psychiatrists?

Ok, this is just plain sad. I work with a disabled adult, and have been trying to find him a new Psychiatrist to go to. I ran out of names for Docs, so I decided to look in the phone book for some help. I live in an average town, about 80,000 people.

I looked in the yellow pages and there were three times as many listing under Psychics than there were under Psychiatrists! And my town is considered a "white-collar", high Dr-patient ratio place! Egads!

What is this country coming to when the Psychiatrists won't list their numbers, so all you have left are Psychics?

You are right, it is just plain sad, perhaps you could call one of the many psychics and ask them to help find you a psychiatrist!!

No seriously though, it is terrible.

Maybe it isn't so much that the psychiatrists in your town don't want to be listed but that there might not be as many psychiatrists as psychics open for business.

Have you tried just looking online with the phone books published here? I have found things not listed in the physical book before but are online.

These days psychiatrists hardly do any therapy at all. They do 15 minute "med check" appts once a month and the patient sees a counselor or therapist (like me) for the therapy. A psychiatrist can see as many as 50 people a day doing this and charge as much as $200 per. Not hard to see why they do so.
