Poison Ivy

My little cousin Wesley got himself into some Poison Ivy and and the poor little guy is suffering. His mother tried to bandage it up and that has to rank as one of those "don't ever do that" things. Now that it is getting lots of air it is drying up and healing. When I was small my mother used to collect Jewel Weed and squeeze the juice onto it. Really helped a lot. When I was in summer camp as a teenager I got into some and they lathered me up with calamine lotion. Made me feel better but it didn't seem to help it heal like what my mom was using.

My kids have gotten into it pretty bad and Aveeno worked wonders for them. We used both the topical cream and the bath oatmeal solution. It seems to make it heal a little faster and takes away alot of the pain and itch.

We've used Aveeno as well as Calamine lotion and both can help with the itching. I've never heard of "Jewel Weed" and wonder if it is available at health stores or pharmacies? It sounds like it does the trick and natural remedies are always better for me.

We do the oatmeal bath followed by calamine lotion, and if it gets really bad, steroid shots. One of my kids is hypersensitive, if a neighbor down the street burns it, he breaks out.

What kind of an idiot burns poison ivy? Taking an allergy inducing plant and turning it into a breathable allergen has got to be a bit dangerous. And you can't exactly drink calamine lotion...

I know we used Calamine and oatmeal as well as some plant I can't recall the name of. I grew out of my allergy to it though. Twice and I never had an issue again.

For things like this I always find calomine lotion works a treat, but nappy cream is a good alternative as a skin cooler.

Oatmeal helps. My little brother gets it really bad. The doctor gives him steriod shots.

I have used calomine lotion myself. I have also noticed it seems poison ivy is growing everywhere anymore. When I was a kid I did not see as much as I do now.
