Differences between Antibiotics?

There are so many different forms of antibiotics it seems everytime that I am in need of them I am being prescribed something different.
I am sure you can name others but the ones I've used are:

Amoxicillin - Penicillin - Keflex - Augmentin - Amoxicillin with Clavulanate and I am sure there have been more.

So, does anyone know what the differences are?

Amoxicillian and Amoxicillin with Clauvanate and Augmentin are the same product. It just depends on who the manufacturer is.
These three have an added ingredient clavulanic acid that weakens the bacterias outer shell if its penicillin resistant bacteria.

Penicillin is the original broad spectrum antibiotic. Penicillin came in live and dead.
teh firt three are penicillin deriviatives, hwoever Keflex is not, its a different type all together.

I was injected with live as ababy and its tsill is working and has become part of my chemistry

Keflex is a Cephalexin which is not a penicillin

I think some work better for different sicknesses. And different people too. I have heard of all the ones mentioned.

The sheer amount of types make me worry. Amoxicillian used to be the antibiotic prescribed for everything. It wasn't always warranted and many people started to grow resistant or were allergic to start with. I'm not sure using so many differnt types is warranted either. I'd start asking and keeping track of what they are prescribing for what. many doctors hand out antiobiotics like candy.
