How early is too early when it comes to a child seeing a doctor for a yearly check up, more so a young girl. Is this once the cycle begins? |

I would have thought it would be when the person becomes sexually active, or at least that is what happens in my part of the world. |

They usually recommend it once the child starts her menstrual cycle to start having regular check ups. |

If the young girl is not having any extra pains or discomfort and she is doing well, I don't think she needs to see a gynecologist until she is older and becomes sexually active.
If she is not having any difficulties, then there's no need to put her through the trauma of a gynecological examination. |

I agree, skatss. If she isn't sexually active or isn't having any kind of pain or discomfort, then I think she should wait. That is also what my doctor told me. |

I was told age 16-18 unless there is menstrual issues or sexual activity. Obviously earlier by a bit isn't terrible but since most people don't enjoy visiting the OBGYN why start before you need to? |

In my area, they are considered unnecessary until a person is sexually active. Obviously, that may change if there was any issues noted but that would not entail a pap smear usually. |

I was told when a female starts her menstral cycle she should be taken in for a eval and then she will have a medical chart started, if any complications happen, they will have a record of such. |
