St. Johns Wort

I have found that when my monthly rolls around, I get stressed out. If I take a couple of St. Johns Wort then it makes me feel better.

St. John's Wort has a very well known reputation as an anti depressant. Unfortunately it doesn't work for everyone. It also is known to occasionally interact with other drugs and has some side effects of it's own. This is one herb I would recommend being a little careful with.

Make sure that you research St. John's Wort, or anything really, before you start taking it. Make certain that it won't harm you and won't interact badly with medications you are already talking. In a recent booklet that my sister got about her new chemo drug, they specifically mention that she shouldn't take St. John's Wort. It is very powerful.

Just be sure that whatever you take is safe for you.

I do know that it works against my birth control pills, so I haven't been able to take it for a while. I do make sure before I take any herbs that they are ok with my other medicines. I would also recommend anyone talking to their doctor before using any herbs or vitamins.

I have heard both good and bad things about St. Johns Wort. They are not regulated by the FDA ( I think thats what they are called) because they are an herb.I would definitly talk to a doctor before I took it. I have prescription meds so I don`t take anything unless my doctor knows about it.

Personally I avoid any herb that has an effect on my mental state. This herb is not well understood or researched and yet it is acting like prozac....of which I have a bad opinion of as well.
